Every year a host of riders retire from the top level of the sport, but this year’s retirement list contains a few big hitters. Anna van der Breggen is one of the best of this generation of riders with only a couple of others in that conversation. Kirsten Wild is a different type of rider but she’s also one of the best ever sprinters of the women’s peloton. Trixi Worrack has been a staple of the women’s peloton for what feels like an eternity. She won the World Championship TT at the junior level way back in 1998. Jolien d’Hoore is another grandee of the sport who is retiring this off-season. She’s another who won a World Championship as a junior, back in 2008.

ToggleWe know what some of these riders are doing in their retirement. Anna van der Breggen is heading for a Director Sportif role at SD Worx. Jolien d’Hoore will be doing the same role for the NXTG Racing team. Ruth Winder has been elected to a 4-year term as a representative on the UCI Athletes’ Commission. Dani Christmas has already begun commentating and this might be something she pursues further too.
There is talent all down this list and you could make a dream team squad from the riders on here.
