Floortje Mackaij will leave Movistar Team at the end of the 2026 season and join VolkerWessels Cycling Team on a two-year contract covering 2027 and 2028.
The move takes Mackaij back to a Dutch team for the first time since she left Team DSM at the end of 2022. She has spent the past four seasons with Movistar, having previously extended her contract with the Spanish squad through 2026.
Mackaij returns to a Dutch team
VolkerWessels confirmed Mackaij as its latest addition for the next two seasons, bringing an experienced Classics rider into a squad that has continued to strengthen its position in the women’s peloton.
“For me joining VolkerWessels feels like coming home,” Mackaij said. She added that she had watched the team develop over recent seasons and wanted to continue her own progression while helping the squad take another step forward.

Mackaij brings more than a decade of top-level experience. She won Gent-Wevelgem in 2015 at just 19 years old and has remained a regular presence in the spring Classics, with second at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and podium finishes at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Dwars door Vlaanderen among the strongest results of her career.
A rider suited to VolkerWessels’ attacking style
Her value goes beyond individual results. Mackaij has built much of her career around aggressive racing on difficult terrain, particularly when short climbs, cobbles and poor weather make positioning and repeated attacks as important as pure climbing ability.
That profile gives VolkerWessels an experienced option for the major northern Classics as well as selective stage races. Mackaij has also shown throughout her Movistar spell that she can contribute to team plans while still taking opportunities of her own when races become open.
The agreement keeps Mackaij under contract through the end of 2028 and gives VolkerWessels one of its most experienced signings ahead of the 2027 season.
