Four riders to the World Championships

Olga Shekel and Arlenis Sierra will race already tomorrow in the time trial

Four are the athletes of the Astana Women’s Team who have been called up by their respective national teams to compete in the Imola 2020 World Championships. The program of the biggest international event of the season will be opened tomorrow Thursday 24 September by the Individual Time Trial which will be held on a course of 31.7 kilometers with start and finish inside the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. The 26-year-old Olga Shekel, national champion of the disciplineuu and at her sixth consecutive participation in the Time Trial World Championship, will be competing for Ukraine; Cuba will be represented by Arlenis Sierra who will instead be at her first time in this race after having already done the road race twice in 2018 and 2019.

On Saturday 26 September, Imola will host the road race of the World Championships on a 28.8 kilometer circuit that the women will have to repeat 5 times for a total of 144 kilometers: the route will include the climbs of Mazzolano and Cima Gallisterna, two hills that do not reach three kilometers in length but that will reach a maximun gradient of more than 10% in some sections. In addition to Olga Shekel and Arlenis Sierra, who will double their efforts after the time trial, two other cyclists from the Astana Women’s Team will also be competing, both in their first career road World Championship: Italy will rely on 23-year-old Katia Ragusa who just had excellent performances at the Giro Rosa, in the team of Lithuania there will be the 22-year-old Olivija Baleisyte.
