Guillaume Martin is set to ride for Groupama-FDJ in 2025 after signing a two-year contract. The French rider leaves Cofidis following five seasons, which included two top-ten finishes at the Tour de France. Martinโ€™s departure from Cofidis had been anticipated, particularly after he mentioned equipment issues in a recent Le Monde interview.

Groupama-FDJ confirmed Martinโ€™s signing, the first day teams could announce their 2025 signings. Martinโ€™s arrival offers the team a new leading figure after Thibaut Pinot’s retirement and the upcoming departure of young talent Lenny Martinez.

โ€œFor next season, I felt the need for a change of scenery and the desire to discover a new environment,โ€ Martin said in a Thursday statement. โ€œGroupama-FDJ is the right team for me to continue my career. I feel that I still have room for improvement and this team can provide me with the means to progress to the very highest level.โ€

Early Career and Struggles

Martin raced as a stagiaire with FDJ in 2014 but, despite winning the under-23 Liรจge-Bastogne-Liรจge the following spring, he did not receive an offer from Marc Madiotโ€™s teamโ€”or any French squad. Consequently, Martin turned professional with the Belgian squad Wanty in 2016.

โ€œIt was really complicated to find a team,โ€ Martin told Cyclingnews in 2020. โ€œFDJ had taken me as a stagiaire but the next year, I had no news and no explanation. My first offer was the one from Wanty, and it came in October, so obviously I said yes. And in hindsight, it was the best thing that could have happened to me.โ€

After four seasons with Wanty, Martin joined Cofidis in 2020. His highlights include finishing 8th in the 2021 Tour and 10th in 2023, winning the King of the Mountains title at the 2020 Vuelta a Espaรฑa, and overall victory at the 2022 Tour de lโ€™Ain.

Martin is the second new signing for Groupama-FDJ for 2025, with Peace Race winner Brieuc Rolland also set to move up from the development squad to the WorldTour next year.
