Karlijn Swinkels has extended her contract with UAE Team ADQ until the end of 2026, continuing her journey with the team she joined at the start of the 2024 season. At just 25, the Dutch rider has already established herself as a key figure within the squad, with recent victories at the St Feuillien Grand Prix de Wallonie and AG Tour de la Semois underscoring her strong form.

Reflecting on her time with the team, Swinkels said, “I really like the atmosphere with the girls and the team in general. We have a lot of different riders from different cultures, which brings something new and unique to the team.” This diverse environment has helped her settle in quickly, leading to over 20 top-ten finishes in her debut season.

Swinkels’ successful transition from Team Visma to UAE Team ADQ has been aided by the new coaching setup, which has seen her develop as a rider throughout the season. “From the start of the season, I felt like I was in a good place with the team. All year weโ€™ve worked together to try and improve and reach that first place,” she remarked. Her strong performances in the Spring Classics, including a fourth-place finish at Le Samyn des Dames, have set the tone for a promising future with the team.

One highlight of her season came during the AG Tour de la Semois, where Swinkels raced alongside five riders from the UAE Development Team. This experience allowed her to mentor younger riders, a role she clearly enjoyed. “I liked to race with them because youโ€™re without radios, so you have to really talk and communicate. They have so much talent and want to learn,” Swinkels explained.

Looking ahead, Swinkels is already focusing on 2025, with a particular emphasis on the Classics and stage races. The recent addition of Elisa Longo Borghini to UAE Team ADQ is also something Swinkels is excited about. “Having a leader like her in the finals will also give us a bit more freedom and more opportunities,” she noted, hinting at the potential for further success alongside the experienced Italian rider.

Team president Melissa Moncada praised Swinkels’ impact on the team since joining in 2024, saying, “Karlijn has made a positive impression with our riders and staff. Her recent success highlights her qualities as a rider and the hard work she has put in with the coaching staff and sports directors.” Moncada also mentioned how Swinkels’ collaboration with the UAE Development Team is laying a strong foundation for the future, as the team continues to grow.
