Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider Lieke Nooijen is set to miss the spring classics after an accident during an indoor strength training session at her team’s training camp in Spain. The 22-year-old Dutch cyclist suffered a fractured vertebra following an awkward misstep and underwent surgery to address the injury.

Speaking about the incident, Nooijen explained, “During a strength training in Spain, I misstepped and landed awkwardly, leading to this injury. Unfortunately, this means I have to set aside my spring goals. My sole focus now is on recovering properly in the upcoming months.”

Team manager Rutger Tijssen expressed relief over the successful operation, while acknowledging the long road ahead for the young rider. “Lieke will need time to recover fully. This is not a process we can rush,” Tijssen said, adding, “The entire team is supporting Lieke in her recovery. Our priority is ensuring she returns to racing in optimal condition.”

The injury comes as a significant setback for Nooijen, who had been preparing to build momentum in the upcoming spring races. For now, her focus shifts entirely to a careful and steady recovery process.
