Vincenzo Nibali and Lizzie Deignan give first impressions on new Émonda
Sometimes in racing, we have to make a tough choice: do we want our lightest bike or our fastest bike out on the course? This week, as Trek launches the 2021 Émonda, that choice just got a whole lot easier for Trek-Segafredo.
The all-new Émonda has huge upgrades on aerodynamics. It’s Trek’s fastest climbing bike ever created. This Émonda tested 60 seconds per hour faster on flats and 18 seconds per hour faster at an 8% grade than the previous generation Émonda.
The Émonda’s frame is made of the new 800 Series OCLV Carbon and weighs less than 700 grams. The 800 Series OCLV Carbon is 30% stronger than previous OCLV Carbon laminates, allowing Trek engineers to create the Émonda SLR’s aero shapes without adding a lot of weight whilst maintaining a frame that is just as stiff.
When I rode the all-new Trek Émonda I thought: Wow, that’s amazing. This bike is the answer to all my needs.
Vincenzo Nibali’s review:
“As a pro-rider with many years on the circuit, I’ve thought a lot about my ideal bike. I want it to be super light, responsive in the most critical moments of the race and, of course, super fast. When I rode the all-new Trek Émonda I thought: Wow, that’s amazing. This bike is the answer to all my needs. No other bike I’ve ridden in my career has this perfect blend of weight and aerodynamics without sacrificing top shelf handling. For a GC contender, it’s the perfect bike. I can’t wait to ride the new Trek Émonda through the terrain of the next Giro d’Italia”.
Lizzie Deignan’s review:
“The new Émonda complements my characteristics as a bike rider: it’s an all-rounder. Normally there is a compromise on a bike like this but it’s the first time that I feel like I’m riding a bike that is the best at everything. Light but stiff, aero but comfortable, and, most importantly, fast. I cannot wait to race on the new Émonda because when I’m riding it, I feel like I want to attack. It is, without a doubt, the best bike I have ever ridden.”
