Welcome to live coverage of stage 6 of La Vuelta Femenina 2025, where the riders take on 126km from Becerril de Campos to Baltanás in what looks set to be a sprint stage – albeit one with a sting in the tail.
After a decisive GC day yesterday, where Demi Vollering seized the red jersey on the summit finish at Lagunas de Neila, stage 6 offers a chance for the sprinters to return to the spotlight. The route is mostly flat, but the approach to Baltanás features a slightly uphill drag and some rolling terrain in the final 20km that could disrupt the pure lead-out trains. Timing and positioning will be crucial.
Marianne Vos starts as the clear favourite if it comes down to a sprint. She was untouchable in Huesca earlier in the week and will be eyeing another stage win here. Whether her team wants to control a likely chaotic finale after the GC fireworks of stage 5 remains to be seen. Femke Gerritse, who wore red earlier in the race, is back on the bike today despite a crash yesterday that required overnight x-rays on her hand. Thankfully, no fractures were found, and she lines up at the start, but it remains unclear if she can contest the sprint or play a support role.
For the overall classification, Vollering leads with one stage remaining, but unless crosswinds cause trouble today, the GC should stay largely unchanged ahead of tomorrow’s hilly finale. Expect today’s headlines to be all about the fast finishers – and whether anyone can beat Vos to the line.
