Live: 2025 Women’s Schwalbe One Day Classic

Ninke-Veenhoven-2024-Tour-Down-Under-Criterium

The Women’s Schwalbe One Day Classic is effectively a criterium race that takes place ahead of the final stage of the men’s Tour Down under. It was held in 2023 and 2024 but not as a UCI race, whereas this year it has made the jump straight up to the 1.Pro level. That means there is a lot more on the line here, with teams needing UCI points and a nice chance on a flat circuit to earn them. The rider will do 20 laps of a 4.5km lap for a total of 90km. There are the classic right-angle corners you’d expect from a criterium and a hairpin will be stretch the pack out with its deacceleration and then sprint back up to speed each lap. It should come down to a sprint finish but there is always the opportunity for a late flyer from someone prepared to roll the dice or a team without a notable sprinter.

Nienke Veenhoven won last year ahead of Georgia Baker and Lauretta Hanson. The Dutch rider won’t be returning to try and repeat her success, so Georgia Baker will be a major favourite. There will be one former winner here though in Ally Wollaston who took the 2023 edition of the Women’s Schwalbe One Day Classic. Other big name sprinters here include Clara Copponi, Chloe Dygert or Maike van der Duin from Canyon SRAM and Rachele Barbieri. We might also see fast finishes from the likes of Silje Bader, Babette van der Wolf, Kristyna Burlova, India Grangier and Lucie Fityus.
