Marianne Vos delays decision on cyclocross return for 2024-25 season

Marianne Vos has yet to decide if she will be lining up for cyclocross races this winter. The eight-time world champion, who last appeared in a cyclocross event in February 2023, admitted that her plans for the upcoming season remain uncertain. Speaking at the Nacht van Woerden, Vos told Wielerflits that no decisions had been made regarding her participation.

โ€œI donโ€™t have the planning completely clear yet,โ€ Vos said with a laugh. โ€œItโ€™s nice to be in Woerden and to experience the atmosphere, but this time Iโ€™m without a bike.โ€ Vos attended the event at the invitation of the organisers, where she was honoured for her world title in gravel racing, alongside Puck Pieterse (mountain bike), Fem van Empel (cyclocross), and Lorena Wiebes (track, scratch).

Both Vos and her Visma team are still weighing up the options. โ€œI still have to sit down with the team and then we will see what the best consideration will be, also towards the road season,โ€ she explained. โ€œI like to do cyclocross, but you have to make the right choice.โ€

Reflecting on the factors influencing her decision, Vos shared that cyclocross holds a special place for her. โ€œItโ€™s just very nice to do,โ€ she said, before acknowledging the complexity of the decision. โ€œThe other consideration is the preparation towards the road season. It is quite difficult.โ€

Last winter, Vos opted out of the 2023-24 cyclocross season, which paid off with a successful road season that followed. โ€œI had a very nice road season, so I am very happy with that. I laid a good foundation for that last winter,โ€ she noted. โ€œThat also makes it difficult. I am going to take my time for that. I have just had my rest and the build-up is slowly starting again. More will become clear in a few weeks.โ€
