Marta Cavalli (Retired)

Marta Cavalli is a retired Italian cyclist who was one of the world’s leading climbers and Classics riders at her peak. Her outstanding 2022 season included victories at Amstel Gold Race and La Flèche Wallonne Féminine, second overall at the Giro d’Italia Women and fifth at Paris-Roubaix Femmes. Cavalli’s career was subsequently disrupted by a series of crashes and injuries, and she retired from professional cycling in 2025 at the age of 27.

Career overview

Cavalli turned professional with Valcar in 2017 and won the Italian road race championship the following year. She joined FDJ in 2021 and developed into one of the peloton’s strongest climbers, culminating in her exceptional 2022 campaign with victories at Amstel Gold Race and La Flèche Wallonne Féminine and second overall at the Giro d’Italia Women. A heavy crash at the 2022 Tour de France Femmes interrupted that progress, although she returned to win four races in 2023. Further injuries limited her to six race days in 2024. Cavalli moved to Team Picnic PostNL for 2025 but struggled to rediscover her previous level and announced her retirement in September after nine professional seasons.
