Marta Lach holds on to win 2023 GP Fourmies Women

Marta Lach, representing the Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling team, was the star of this year’s race. Fresh off her commendable fourth-place finish at A Travers les Hauts de France yesterday, Lach clinched an awe-inspiring victory at the La Choralis Fourmies Féminine (aka GP Fourmies Women) held today.

La Choralis Fourmies Féminine, a one-day event with a 1.2 ranking on the UCI calendar, took place in northern France, not far from the Belgian border. The riders tackled a 120-kilometre course that commenced and culminated in Fourmies. The race profile was notably undulating and culminated with five loops, each spanning 10 kilometres. Lach, in an impressive display of skill and strategy, opted for a solo attack with three laps remaining in the race.

Despite the peloton’s fervent chase, the determined Pole maintained her lead. Raising her arms in a triumphant gesture, Lach crossed the finish line, securing her victory just moments before the chasing competitors caught up. Filling up the podium was Sofie van Rooijen from Parkhotel Valkenburg and Marthe Truyen of Fenix-Deceuninck Continental. Fauve Bastiaenssen took an impressive 4th ahead of Clara Copponi, Valentina Basilico and yesterday’s winner Valentine Fortin.

This victory serves as a testament to Marta Lach’s consistently stellar performance in French one-day races this September. Notably, she previously showcased her prowess by securing the second spot in the WorldTour race, Classic Lorient Agglomeration – Trophee CERATIZIT. Given her current momentum, the cycling community will undoubtedly keep an eager eye on her future endeavours.
