Mavi Garcia second in the GC of Setmana Ciclistca Valenciana

Alé BTC Ljubljana closes as protagonist and with great satisfaction its V Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, stage race of category 2.1. that ended today in Spain, on the finish line of Alicante.

The Spanish Mavi Garcia, with the support of the whole team, defended her second place in the final general classification (GC), finishing behind the winner, the European champion Annemiek Van Vleuten, who together with Garcia had already delineated the hierarchies of the classification in the first and demanding stage in Gandía.

The young sprinter Laura Tomasi, who was seventh in the stage today, did a great job and was in the top 10 three times out of four: fourth in the second stage and fifth yesterday in the third stage.

But it was the whole team to behave well as confirmed by the words of the sports director Giuseppe Lanzoni who led the girls in Spain: “I’m very happy with how the whole team has moved and for the compactness of the group that the girls have shown in these days. We haven’t been very lucky, but the athletes have done everything we had to do. Mavi Garcia picked up a beautiful second place in the GC and showed that she is in good physical condition. Laura Tomasi was always among the best in the sprints and I have to make a special appreciation to Tatiana Guderzo because I asked her to be the sport director in the race and she was very good at moving and leading her teammates. Today, despite the two crashes yesterday and the pain she was in, she was still up there helping the team. Sophie Wright and Anastasiia Chursina showed signs of improvement. In the end, the balance of this race is definitely positive”.
