REPORT: Christine Majerus wins Drentse Acht van Westerveld

There was a lot of wind during Drentse acht van Westerveld, which meant echelons. The group split in two, and Team SD Worx was represented well at the front. But there was a regroup and Christine Majerus came to the team car to talk about the game plan. “It was a pity the first big breakaway didn’t last, so we decided to start attacking at the point where it usually breaks in the smaller laps. It costs energy, but we knew that it could be the gamechanger. The first attack got away and I was lucky that I was in there.”

“It was a nerve wrecking finish for me, I was with three strong riders. I gambled on my sprint and didn’t let anyone go anymore. I’m happy it worked out. We did a lot of work with the team, so I’m glad I could finish it off. This really was an example of old style racing, no communication and being up front all the team. This kind of racing suits me and I’m very happy to take a personal win.”

“This doesn’t say anything for tomorrow’s WorldTour race. It’s a race where anything can happen. Lotte Kopecky joins the team, so we’ve got a good extra card to play. We’ve got a strong team, so hopefully we will get another win.”

The winner takes it all, as Majerus won the rushes ranking, the cobbles ranking and ofcourse the win of the race.
