The 2025 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women will break new ground in June, as the race heads north for the first time in its history with stages across North Yorkshire, Tees Valley and into Scotland โ culminating in a city-centre finale in Glasgow.
Announced today with 50 days to go, the route for the UCI Womenโs WorldTour race brings four brand new stages to the calendar, all in areas that have never before hosted the womenโs race.
Redcar opener and Saltburn showdown in the Tees Valley
Stage one on Thursday 5th June starts from Dalby Forest, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, and heads north to Redcar. The forest โ a well-known mountain biking location โ will host the race for the first time, with a route that crosses the scenic moors and introduces the peloton to the Tees Valley.
The Tees Valley plays a bigger role the following day. Stage two, on Friday 6th June, is based entirely in the region, beginning from Hartlepool Marina and finishing in Saltburn-by-the-Sea after two ascents of the brutal Saltburn Bank. The narrow, twisting 15% climb from the beach to the clifftop has already become a modern British classic after its role in the national championships โ won on both occasions by Pfeiffer Georgi โ and now makes its debut in the Tour of Britain Women.
Jonathan Day, Managing Director of British Cycling Events, said the new terrain would be a major attraction:
“We know Redcar and Saltburn well as past menโs Tour of Britain and national championships venues, and I am sure Saltburn Bank as a stage finish will prove very popular with fans.”
Scotland debut with Kelso and Glasgow
The weekend moves to Scotland for the first time in the raceโs history. The penultimate stage on Saturday 7th June is a Kelso-to-Kelso loop in the Scottish Borders, using the rolling countryside around the Eildon Hills and visiting Melrose and Jedburgh. The cobbled market square in Kelso will provide a distinctive setting for both start and finish.
Stage four on Sunday 8th June sees Glasgow host the finale on a punchy 8.4-kilometre circuit based around Glasgow Green. Riders will complete ten laps before a successor to 2024 champion Lotte Kopecky is crowned. The city circuit promises to create a high-speed conclusion, with cycling-themed festivities planned around the centre.
Jonathan Day added:
“Then we take the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women to Scotland for the first time and two exciting stagesโฆ being able to finish the race overall in the heart of a major city like Glasgow will be a great way to round out this yearโs Tour.”
The full route details and team announcements will follow in the coming weeks.
