Fenix-Deceuninck has announced the signing of 21-year-old Dutch rider Sophia Zwaan for their womenโs development team. Zwaan, who previously rode for UAE Development in 2023 and 2024, will continue her progression within a professional structure designed to support young talent. Despite announcing the move today, Zwaan posted on her Instagram around 3 weeks ago her new team kit.
The team welcomed Zwaan with an official announcement, stating: “Welcome, Sophia Zwaan! The 21-year-old Dutch talent joins our Fenix-Deceuninck Womenโs Development Team. Excited to see her grow and shine in our colours. With her arrival, our teams are now complete! Stay tuned for the final rosters coming up soon.”
Zwaan expressed her excitement about the move, describing it as a return to an environment where she feels at home:
“Iโm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to race with Fenix-Deceuninck this season. It truly feels like coming home, an environment where I can continue to grow as a rider. The teamโs professional structure provides the perfect support to reach my full potential.”
She will make her debut at Le Samyn des Dames, followed by a multi-day race in Italy.
Steady development and promising results
Before joining UAE Development, Zwaan rode for Watersley R&D in 2022, gaining valuable experience in U23 racing. Over the past two seasons, she has continued to progress, securing notable results such as 12th at the 2024 Grote Prijs Yvonne Reynders and 15th in the 2022 Leiedal Koerse.
Her move to Fenix-Deceuninck’s development squad provides a clear pathway for further growth, with the team already proving to be a strong stepping stone for young talents looking to make the jump to the professional level.
