Suisse: Ton attacks, Korevaar just outside top-10

In the third stage of the Tour de Suisse the Liv Racing Xstra colours were prominent in the front. First Quinty Ton was in the day`s breakaway, while Jeanne Korevaar finished in the first part of the peloton.

The first two days of the Tour de Suisse were short, but hard. In the first stage over 46 kilometres, the pace was very high. Despite that three riders managed to get away and stay away until the finish line. All Liv Racing Xstra riders finished in the peloton. The second day was a time trial over 25,6 km, so again a hard day at the office. Valerie Demey displayed a strong ride and finished as best Liv Racing Xstra rider in 18th place.

On the third day the purple Liv Racing Xstra colours were in the front again. After the first climb of the day a group of five riders took off. Quinty Ton defended the team`s honour in that group. The riders in the front group worked well together and gained a lead of almost two minutes. On one of the last climbs Ton had to let go of the others and dropped back in the peloton. “Unfortunately I don`t have the legs to go for a good general classification this time. So that`s why I choose to go on the attack today. We were in the front for a long time. At the second long climb, I had to let the others go. Once I was caught by the peloton I tried to help Jeanne position well for the finale”, Ton told after the stage.

After all escapees were caught at four kilometres from the finish the preparation for the uphill sprint started. Jeanne Korevaar was still in the first part of the peloton and gave all she had in the final sprint. She finished just outside the top-10 as 11th. “The first two days were a shock to the system due to the warmth and the fact I just returned from altitude stage in Livigno. I felt good in the first stage but wasn`t completely satisfied with my time trial though it wasn`t a bad time. Today I felt really strong and was in the front on the climbs. After the first climb, Quinty managed to get in the breakaway. That was a good scenario for us. I could try to save some energy in the peloton and the other girls looked after me with drinks. It was nice to be in the front of the peloton and finish the stage in a good way. The spirit is good for tomorrow`s final stage”, Korevaar commented on her race.
