Team Jayco AlUla has announced a formidable roster for the 2024 season, featuring six new recruits to enhance the team’s overall strength. The headline addition is Australian sprinter Caleb Ewan, who is set to return to his roots, joining forces with Dylan Groenewegen to form a formidable sprinting duo. Each will have dedicated lead-out trains and opportunities in major races. German powerhouse Max Walscheid also joins the team, bolstering the sprint setup with his formidable strength and speed.
General Manager Brent Copeland expressed excitement about the team’s strengthened sprint group, confident that with Ewan and Groenewegen, supported by new and existing riders, the team will boast one of the best sprint contingents in the WorldTour peloton in 2024.
In pursuit of stage race success, the team has fortified its climbing cadre, with Simon Yates, Eddie Dunbar, Chris Harper, and Filippo Zana at the core. Australian rising star Luke Plapp is among the new additions, bringing fresh talent to the team’s climbing group. Copeland highlighted the team’s solid foundation in this area, anticipating more success in stage races and hilly one-day events with the added depth.
The team is also focusing on nurturing future talent, with Italian prospect Davide De Pretto and Danish all-rounder Anders Foldager joining the ranks. They follow in the footsteps of 2023 newcomers Welay Hagos Berhe and Felix Engelhardt, who have already made a mark on the world stage. The team environment is geared towards helping young riders like De Pretto and Foldager transition smoothly into the WorldTour peloton.
Swiss rider Mauro Schmid, already a Giro d’Italia stage winner at just 23, is another exciting young talent joining the team. Copeland emphasised the team’s commitment to developing young riders, both within the WorldTour setup and through its women’s development team and partnership with Axel Merckx’s men’s development team.
The team’s 2024 roster comprises 30 riders, including 11 Australians and 19 internationals from various countries, with the youngest being 21-year-old De Pretto and the oldest 37-year-old Alessandro De Marchi. Copeland extended his gratitude to team owner Gerry Ryan, partners AlUla and Giant, and all sponsors for their continued support.
Team Jayco AlUla’s full 2024 roster reflects a blend of youth and experience, promising an exciting season ahead as preparations are already in full swing.
