Tom Pidcock, the Olympic gold medallist in cross-country mountain biking, has been confirmed to race in the upcoming Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men, which takes place from 3rd to 8th September. The 25-year-old INEOS Grenadiers rider will be returning to the UK for his fourth participation in the race, following his recent success at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In his statement, Pidcock described the Tour of Britain as a “really special race” for him, expressing excitement about racing in front of the passionate home fans. “Returning to the UK after such a busy year of racing and to pin on numbers in front of the passionate home fans, always provides great motivation,” Pidcock said. He also looked forward to competing alongside his INEOS Grenadiers teammates in their home race, adding, “We look forward to seeing you all out along the road.”
Pidcock’s inclusion in the race adds to the growing list of star riders set to compete, which already includes double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel and former race winner Julian Alaphilippe. Both riders are expected to be strong contenders, with Alaphilippe having previously won the race and Evenepoel bringing his Olympic success to the event.
Further British interest in the race comes from riders like Mark Donovan and Stevie Williams, who were among the standout performers in last year’s edition. Donovan, who was named Best British Rider in 2023, will be participating for the fourth time and aims to improve on his fifth-place finish last year. Williams, who was in contention for the overall lead during the final stage last year, will also be back, fresh off his biggest career win at La Flรจche Wallonne in April.
The race will feature a strong international field, with 18 teams from 12 countries set to line up for the start in Kelso, Scotland. Among them is Damien Howson, who finished third in last yearโs edition. The Australian, representing Q36.5 Pro Cycling, will be looking to build on his previous success when he returns for his second Tour of Britain.
The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men will cover six stages, starting in the Scottish Borders and travelling through various regions including the Tees Valley, South Yorkshire, and the East Midlands, before concluding in Suffolk. Fans eager to witness the action can look forward to stages that promise intense competition, with premium hospitality options available for those wishing to get closer to the race.
