Urška Žigart has extended her contract with AG Insurance-Soudal through the end of the 2029 season, adding another year to the deal she agreed earlier in 2026.
The Slovenian had already committed to the Belgian WorldTour team until the end of 2028 at its February team presentation. The latest agreement takes that partnership a year further and keeps one of the squad’s leading stage-race riders in place for the next three seasons.
Žigart joined AG Insurance-Soudal at the start of 2025 and has developed into an important part of the team’s climbing and general classification group. She finished second at the Tour de Romandie, fifth at the Tour de Suisse and ninth at the Giro d’Italia during her first season with the team.
Strong 2026 season despite injury setbacks
Her second year brought another step forward in stage races. Žigart finished sixth overall at La Vuelta and then improved to eighth at the Giro d’Italia, the best Giro result achieved by a Slovenian rider.
The season was also interrupted twice by serious crashes. She fractured her jaw at the Tour de Suisse in June, returned to racing in time for the Tour de France Femmes, and then suffered another fracture to the same area at the Faun Tour de l’Ardèche in September.
That second injury is expected to keep her out for the remainder of 2026, as detailed in our September injury update. The new contract nevertheless gives Žigart and AG Insurance-Soudal a long-term platform beyond that disrupted finish to the season.
Žigart becomes part of AG Insurance-Soudal’s long-term core
The extension also fits the wider direction of the team, which has been securing several key riders on multi-year contracts as it builds towards the end of the decade. Shari Bossuyt is also contracted through 2029, while AG Insurance and Soudal have committed their backing to the team through 2030.
For Žigart, the agreement means her future is settled well before she returns to racing. At 29, she has developed from a strong climber and national-level time trial specialist into a consistent top-10 finisher in the major stage races, with AG Insurance-Soudal now committing to that progression through 2029.
