Van den Boom: “The team did everything they could to put Bertizzolo in a good position for the sprint”

Liv Racing can look back positively at the first stage race of the season. Sofia Bertizzolo sprinted to third place on Sunday on the third and final day of the Festival Elsy Jacobs (105 km). The stage victory in Garnich went again to Emma Norsgaard, who also took the general classification.

“Today we had agreed to pull out all the stops and go for success as a team. In the first place for the stage win, but also having the general classification in mind. After two days everything was relatively close together. In addition, there were bonification seconds to be earned at the finish”, says sports director Eric van den Boom.

“When a group of eighteen riders was in front, it looked good for us. We attempted for Pauliena Rooijakkers to breakaway from the front group. Unfortunately, the escapees were caught. We then decided to play the Sofia Bertizzolo card. The team prepared the sprint very well. In the end, two others were just a fraction faster.”

CRASH

A setback was the crash of Evy Kuijpers. She has been taken to hospital for an examination. As soon as there is any information about the physical consequences, Liv Racing will report it via social media.
