Vuelta a Burgos: crash prevents success in second stage

Liv Racing performed very well in the second stage of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas on Friday. But a crash on the way to the finish in Villarcayo prevented the riders from succeeding. The Liv Racing riders did not take part in the bunch sprint for second place. Anastasiia Chursina won solo. Sofia Bertizzolo is five seconds behind leader Elise Chabbey in the general classification.

“We were in the front with all our riders. Unfortunately Marta Jaskulska and Sabrina Stultiens crashed at the top of the second and last climb of the day, 22 kilometres from the finish. Marta probably steered a little too hard into a bend. In combination with gravel on the road she lost grip”, Lars Boom said.

“That crash was unfortunate because we had a tactical plan in advance in which Marta had an important role. After the fall, she was passed her best. Sabrina still managed to come back. Pauliena Rooijakkers, Soraya Paladin and Sofia Bertizzolo stayed at the front. I saw Pauliena respond well to an attack at the end which was great.”

Saturday is the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas. It is over 115 kilometres long and ends in Ojo Guareña. The stage has again two third-category climbs. The final summit is also the finish line. “We’re going to make new plans tonight for tomorrow.”
