Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney will join Lidl-Trek from the start of the 2027 season after signing a two-year contract through the end of 2028.
The 32-year-old Polish rider will leave Canyon SRAM after a long spell with the German-registered team, adding another proven Grand Tour and Classics leader to Lidl-Trek’s rapidly strengthening women’s squad.
Lidl-Trek confirmed the move in its official announcement on Monday. Niewiadoma-Phinney said the decision to change teams was not straightforward after so many years in the same environment, but conversations with Lidl-Trek convinced her there was a clear plan for the next stage of her career.
“I am super excited about the next two years,” she said. “I felt the team had a plan, trust and belief in me. I knew that when we joined forces we could aim for the highest dreams.”
Niewiadoma-Phinney leaves Canyon SRAM after another Tour challenge
Niewiadoma-Phinney’s move comes after another season spent at the front of the biggest races. She won on Mont Ventoux during the 2026 Tour de France Femmes, taking yellow with one of the strongest climbing performances of her career before eventually finishing second overall behind Demi Vollering.

Her Tour record remains one of the strongest in the race. Niewiadoma-Phinney won the overall title in 2024 by just four seconds after defending yellow on Alpe d’Huez, and she has finished on the final podium in every edition since the modern race began in 2022.
The 2026 season also included another major championship result, with Niewiadoma-Phinney taking silver behind Vollering in the elite women’s road race at the World Championships in Montréal. She now heads towards the European Championships before completing her final races with Canyon SRAM.

Niewiadoma-Phinney gives Lidl-Trek a rider capable of targeting both stage races and the Ardennes Classics. Her career wins include the Tour de France Femmes, La Flèche Wallonne and Amstel Gold Race, while her consistency has made her a regular presence in the final selection of the sport’s hardest races.
Women’s Team Manager Frank Schleck said the attraction was not only her results, but the way she races.
“Kasia is courageous. She is aggressive. She is willing to take responsibility and make a race rather than simply wait for it to happen,” Schleck said.
The signing continues Lidl-Trek’s work to strengthen the women’s roster for 2027. The team has already confirmed Blanka Vas through 2028, while Niewiadoma-Phinney will also be reunited with Riejanne Markus. The pair last raced together at WM3 a decade ago.
Niewiadoma-Phinney wants a fresh environment
After so long with Canyon SRAM, Niewiadoma-Phinney described the move as a chance to work with a different group of coaches and support staff and to see what can still be improved.
“I’m looking forward to working with people and professionals who have a fresh look at my abilities and at what we can achieve together,” she said.

She also made clear that the move is not about easing towards the end of her career. Niewiadoma-Phinney said she still has a long list of goals for the next two seasons and believes Lidl-Trek can give her the structure to chase them.
For Lidl-Trek, the deal secures one of the peloton’s most established stage-race leaders through 2028 and adds another rider capable of winning the biggest one-day races. For Niewiadoma-Phinney, it will be her first major change of team environment in years, beginning with the 2027 season.
