Marthe Truyen won the fifth and final stage of the 2026 Eneco Tour Women in Arnhem after a late three-rider break held off the peloton by the narrowest of margins. The Fenix-Premier Tech rider beat Scarlett Souren of VolkerWessels Cycling Team, while teammate Charlotte Kool took third from the bunch.
Behind the stage fight, Lieke Nooijen completed a dominant week for Team Visma | Lease a Bike by securing the overall title. She finished the race 32 seconds ahead of Femke Markus, with Letizia Borghesi third at 37 seconds after her Col du VAM victory the previous day.
How it unfolded
The short 70.1km Arnhem stage was always likely to encourage aggressive racing, and the attacks began early. Fariba Hashimi was among the first riders to try to get away before the race regrouped, while Julia Kopecký of Team SD Worx – Protime and Jeanne Korevaar of Liv AlUla Jayco later formed a move that briefly gained around half a minute.
That move was brought back, but Team SD Worx – Protime continued to apply pressure. Femke Gerritse attacked and opened a gap of roughly 30 seconds as the race moved through the circuits around Arnhem. Her advantage grew at the same moment a large crash disrupted the peloton on a narrow section of road.
Several Team SD Worx – Protime riders were involved, including Nienke Vinke and Elena Cecchini. Cecchini, riding the final race of her professional career, was forced to abandon after the crash. Most of the other riders were able to continue, but the incident briefly helped Gerritse extend her advantage at the front.
Liv AlUla Jayco and Team Visma | Lease a Bike gradually increased the pace behind and Gerritse was eventually caught. Vinke then tried to attack, but could not establish a lasting gap, while subsequent moves involving riders including Pfeiffer Georgi were also neutralised.
Markus takes bonus seconds before the decisive move
The general classification still mattered despite Nooijen carrying a comfortable advantage into the final day. At the intermediate sprint, Markus collected six bonus seconds, with Quinty Ton second across the line and Borghesi third. Those seconds reduced the final gap to Nooijen, but there was never enough separation on the road to threaten the orange jersey.
Soon afterwards the stage-winning move formed. Souren, Truyen and Talia Appleton of Liv AlUla Jayco got clear and quickly established a small advantage. Their lead was never large, but the trio worked well enough to force the teams behind into a committed chase.
With 5km remaining the three leaders still had around 15 seconds. The peloton continued to close as the finish approached, but the road ran out just in time for the escapees. Truyen launched her sprint from the front group and held off Souren to take the stage, while Appleton was swallowed up in the final dash and Kool came through to claim third.
Truyen gives Fenix-Premier Tech a final-day win
For Truyen, the victory provided a strong finish to the race after a week in which Fenix-Premier Tech had regularly been in the mix through Kool. The team ended the final stage with first and third, with Truyen converting the late break into the win and Kool still able to sprint from the bunch behind.
Souren’s second place capped another strong day for VolkerWessels Cycling Team. Maud Rijnbeek had already been one of the most consistent riders in the general classification, while Souren came within metres of adding a stage victory to the team’s week.
Nooijen wins the 2026 Eneco Tour Women
Nooijen’s overall victory was built on her superiority against the clock. She won the opening prologue in The Hague, lost the lead briefly after Stage 1, then reclaimed it with a second victory in the Tilburg time trial. From there, she absorbed the attacks on the hillier stages at Watersley and the Col du VAM without allowing her advantage to disappear.
Markus moved into the main challenger position with her solo win on Stage 3 and took six more bonus seconds on the final day, but Nooijen still finished 32 seconds clear. Borghesi completed the overall podium at 37 seconds after a consistent week and her Stage 4 victory on the Col du VAM.
Rijnbeek finished fourth overall at 43 seconds, with Vinke fifth at 52 seconds. Quinty Ton took sixth, ahead of Georgi, Kool, Silke Smulders and Florien Bolks. Nooijen also finished the race as points classification winner, while Vinke took the young rider classification.
