Ally Wollaston excels in Tour de Bretagne

This week AG Insurance-NXTG lined up for the Tour de Bretagne, a five-day stage race. The team consisted of Maureen Arens, Julia Borgström, Lone Meertens, Ilse Pluimers, Maud Rijnbeek and Ally Wollaston.

Ally excelled with three third places and a third place in the overall classification. Maud fought hard to keep the mountain’s jersey after winning it on day one but eventually settled for third in that classification. All six riders finished the race.

“I started the week with the goal to be active in the peloton and try at least one bunch sprint to ease back into the European peloton after the summer in New Zealand where I did mostly track cycling,” Ally explains.

Ally won no less than two national track titles (omnium and madison) and four Oceania Championship titles this summer.

“To have my very first UCI podium finish on day one already was very overwhelming. It really gave me so much confidence in my own physical ability but also a mental boost, believing in myself. It set me up for a great week where I also had a great third spot in the time trial and another one in a bunch sprint.”

“It was nice to find that consistency in the result knowing that first stage wasn’t a fluke,” Ally continued. “My results this week are thanks to the team. We really worked as a team here with good teamwork and communication. To have these talented riders and Jolien in my corner is really great.

“I am really looking forward to the rest of the European season. This is a very talented group of riders and I am so proud to be part of them,” Ally concluded.
