AG Insurance-Soudal has provided an update on Ashleigh Moolman Pasio’s condition following her crash in the opening stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. The crash, which occurred just 600 metres from the finish, forced the South African rider out of the race and led to a hospital visit where she was diagnosed with a back injury.

Moolman Pasio, who will be sidelined from upcoming races including the Giro Donne, shared her optimism after a recent consultation with a specialist. “Things are going a lot better now, and I’m feeling very positive after my visit with the specialist yesterday,” she stated. “I’m really optimistic that I can be back racing in August. Of course, I need to take care and prioritise my recovery, but I think it’s also good to have a solid goal to work towards. It gives me motivation and positive energy.”

For now, Moolman Pasio will focus on a cautious, week-by-week rebuilding of her training routine. She will work closely with the medical team to monitor her progress and gradually resume her sessions. Despite the setback, her team remains fully supportive and hopeful for a swift recovery.

There is hope that the South African will still be able to contest the Olympic Games and Tour de France Femmes this season.
