Barbara Guarischi has signed a new contract with Team SD Worx-Protime, keeping her with the team until 2026. The Italian rider, who joined in 2023, has been key in improving the team’s sprint lead-out. Sports manager Danny Stam praised her contributions.
“She and Lorena Wiebes have done a lot to optimise our lead-out,” Stam explained. “They trust each other completely. When Barbara joined, people thought her best days were behind her, but she has proved them wrong. She is important, not only in sprint stages but also in the classics. She’s a perfect example of professionalism. Barbara told us she wants to race for two more years, and we are happy she will do that with us.”
Guarischi said that joining SD Worx-Protime helped her regain motivation after some tough times. “When I arrived here, I wasn’t fully motivated. But at Team SD Worx-Protime, I found joy in cycling again. I felt myself improving every month,” she said.
She also recognised that cycling has become much harder over time. “Cycling has changed a lot and become tougher. You have to sacrifice a lot. But when you can help champions win, it’s very satisfying.”
Barbara Guarischi has accepted that her role has changed. “Five years ago, I was still winning bunch sprints, but I couldn’t do that anymore. I decided to focus on helping others win. My biggest strength has always been my ability to read the race and anticipate other riders’ movements. I have an eagle eye for spotting gaps, which is really useful in the lead-out.”
Since joining SD Worx-Protime, Guarischi has celebrated many victories and feels she fits well with the team’s style. “The team’s approach matches how I see life. The work is professional, but there’s also a friendly atmosphere, and we have freedom. As a professional, you’re passionate about your job and know when to focus. I’m proud to stay with this team for two more years and finish my career here.”
Guarischi’s contract extension means she will continue to support the team’s sprint efforts and bring her experience to help the team succeed in the coming years.
