Belgian Police Arrest Spectator Who Threw Drink at Vos

Belgian police have arrested a spectator who threw a drink at eventual winner Marianne Vos during last Saturday’s cycling race, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Voos took the win with a sprint to victory against Belgian world champion Lotte Kopecky. The incident occurred as the small lead group were approaching the cobbled slopes of the Muur van Geraardsbergen.

As the riders passed through the Muur van Geraardsbergen earlier in the race, and it was captured on camera during the TV broadcast. Local police in Geraardsbergen were able to eventually identify and apprehend the individual responsible.

Following the incident, which sparked outrage within the cycling community, police swiftly took action. Twitter in particular spotted the incident and saw users swift to condemn the person.

“The incident led to outrage within the cycling community,” stated Chief Patrice De Mets. “Immediately after the incident, we took all necessary steps and acted decisively.”
