Talking to DS Danny Stam after a fully packed French cycling week.
“I have mixed feelings. We rode a super National Championship on Saturday and with Anna a great TT at the European Championships.
At the GP Plouay we had some bad luck with Jip crashing riding for a podium position. Lonneke rode a strong -23 championship missing the title in the sprint. During the European Championships on the road the team rode very strong for the national squad. Anna and the team controlling the bunch and Chantal managed to fight for the podium. And finally at La course we fought well. We knew that this wasn’t a course suited for us at the first place. We tried to be ahead on the final climb. We succeeded in this with Christine. However we didn’t counted on the peloton closing the gap. After that it was tough for us. For a moment we hoped that the leaders wouldn’t work together, that hope also disappeared quickly. We made the best out of it during this years La Course. Now the focus moves to the Giro where we hope to be in good shape to fight for the podium.”
