DEBUT WITH PODIUM FOR THE ‘BLUES’ IN BELGIUM

THE YOUNG DANISH SPRINT ROCKET FINISHES JUST BEHIND WORLD CHAMPION ANNA VAN DER BREGGEN (SDW) IN THE 2021 SEASON OPENER FOR THE WOMEN’S MOVISTAR TEAM.

A spectacular start to the 2021 season for the women’s Movistar Team , who played this Saturday the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (UCI ProSeries), the first pavé classic of the year, with a luxury squad in which its youngest member shone with his own light: Emma Norsgaard, 2nd only behind world champion Van der Breggen (SDW).

The Danish champion showed her enormous potential in the sprint of a broken race starting at the Molenberg, some 40km from the conclusion, with a heavy screening that left less than a score of members in the main group, including Norsgaard and Jelena Erić. From ther , Emma tried to cleverly overcome the walls and reserve all her strength for a pack that Van der Breggen broke with her unstoppable attack on the Bosberg.

Almost unbeatable premiere for a telephone squad that will continue in Belgium this Tuesday with the Le Samyn dispute, on hard sections of pavé in Wallonia.

STATEMENTS / Emma Norsgaard:

“ A fantastic result for me; very happy and also a little surprised, but above all, happy. I have tried to run as calmly as possible all day, since the plan for us was to move with Annemiek or Leah and, in my case, try to have that second option for the sprint. When they told us on the radio that she was going alone in a smaller first group, it was time to ‘wake up’ and put all the energy into trying to get there ”.

“ From the car they have transmitted me calm and have given me all the information I needed to be calm, focused and give everything in that sprint. A pity that Van der Breggen has come ahead, but this result gives us all enormous morale. Doing well here was one of the objectives and we are looking forward to the next races. The legs are fine, the form is there and you have to keep taking advantage of it ”.
