Great Britain Cycling Team set for Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Women

The Great Britain Cycling Team has confirmed their participation in the 2024 Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Women, which kicks off in Welshpool, Wales, on Thursday, 6 June. The squad features some of the nation’s top talent, including former road world champion Lizzie Deignan and Olympic gold medallist Elinor Barker.

Stephen Park, British Cycling Performance Director, expressed excitement about the team’s participation, stating, “We are delighted to be able to confirm such a strong Great Britain Cycling Team for the inaugural Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Women. We know that the team will relish the rare opportunity to race at home.”

Elinor Barker shared her enthusiasm for the home race, saying, “It’s always incredibly special to race on home soil where the energy and support from the crowds is unparalleled. For me personally, I am particularly excited that two of the stages will be hosted in Wales on some iconic roads, which will undoubtedly make for a challenging and competitive race. The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Women comes at an important time in our preparations for a huge summer of cycling.”

Joining Deignan and Barker are Elynor Bäckstedt, Anna Henderson, Millie Couzens, and Flora Perkins. Henderson, who finished fourth at the 2023 World Championship ITT and second in the UEC Road European Championships ITT, brings significant experience and talent to the team.

The event holds additional importance as it serves as a key preparatory race ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Park highlighted this, noting, “For the Paris hopefuls among the squad, the event will play a crucial role in the final preparations for the Games. We know that they’ll add real strength and stardust to the race and expect fans will be out in force to show their support.”

The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Women will feature four stages, starting in Welshpool and concluding in Leigh, Greater Manchester on Sunday, 9th June. The race promises to be an exciting showcase of talent, with the Great Britain squad eager to perform in front of home crowds.

The Great Britain Cycling Team will compete against a strong line-up, including four UCI Women’s WorldTour teams and nine UCI Women’s Continental Teams. Notable teams in the competition include SD-Worx – Protime, Team dsm firmenich PostNL, and Liv AlUla Jayco.

Elinor Barker summed up the team’s sentiment, “I think I speak for the whole squad when I say we’re extremely motivated to put on a brilliant show in June – we can’t wait.”
