Gréta Richioud : “The Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile is the biggest race in the world”

From July 2 to 11, the Arkéa Pro Cycling Team will compete in the Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile: the Giro d’Italia for women, with ten stages on the programme. A race which is presented to you jointly by Gréta Richioud and Franck Renimel.

Greta Richioud

“The greatest race in the world”

“The Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile is so far the longest of all the stage races on the women’s calendar, but also the most difficult. It lasts ten days. All the girls prepare a month before at altitude. The best worlds are present at the start of this competition. The stages are very hard, with no day off for the duration of the event”.

“Mythical passes”

“This is really a competition that fits the climbers. There is a lot of vertical drop on offer on the Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile . This race, I took part in it two years ago, it is the Grand Tour National by stages of the calendar for the women, before the organisation next year of the Tour de France Féminin. It is truly an event to be run and discovered. I competed in this race in 2019, and we climbed the Stelvio, a legendary cycling pass. When you get to the top, it’s just huge. We tell ourselves we did it. My role was to protect my leaders during this event, to place them well at the foot of the passes”.

DS ANALYSIS

Franck Renimel  : “What a joy to discover the Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile. It’s a big satisfaction for the riders and all the staff. We will go on this test of ten days very motivated. In 2020, we competed in the Tour International de l’Ardèche. The performances obtained last year on this competition – Pauline’s stage victory with our female runners from the first to the last day of the race, were a trigger that prompted us to apply for the Giro d’Italia Internazionale Femminile this season. The organisers have selected us. The International Women’s Tour de l’Ardèche enabled us last year to build our ranges in a major women’s stage race. The Tour de France scheduled for 2022 will not be unknown to us. We will gain experience and maturity, even perform on Italian roads in view of the 2022 Women’s Tour de France deadline”.

Giro d’Italia Internazionale femminile, from July 2 to 11, 2021, our team composition: Amandine Fouquenet, Pauline Allin, Typhaine Laurance, Léa Curinier, Lucie Jounier, Gréta Richioud

Sports director: Franck Renimel
