Guarischi (6th) and Norsgaard (7th), in the fight in a frustrating first sprint at Hardenberg

Simac Ladies Tour (Stage 1)

Jackson (LIV, 1st) and Grossetete (FDJ, 2nd) survive from the break and beat a peloton where the work of González, Erić and Rodríguez was not enough for their teammates to fight for the victory. Tomorrow Thursday, the long time trial.

It seemed like a sure thing to sprint today… and yet, the 1st stage of the Simac Ladies Tour -134 km between Zwolle and Hardenberg- ended up being resolved between two of the three members of the day’s break, a group that the peloton never pulled back enough and one that the Canadian Jackson (LIV) beat the French rider Grossetete (FDJ). Lorena Wiebes (DSM) gave time to the group of favourites.

The work of the Movistar Team, with Gloria Rodríguez, Alicia González and Jelena Erić always kept Barbara Guarischi and Emma Norsgaard very well placed, but didn’t have the intended success, taking the Italian and the Danish to 6th and 7th places in the day. ‘Baby’ is now on the edge of the top-ten (11th) of a general classification that will be reordered tomorrow, Thursday, in the long time trial of the Tour of the Netherlands, over 17 km completely flat in Gennep.

– Starting order CRI (Thursday 26): 12.34 Gloria Rodríguez, 13.04 Alicia González, 13.22 Jelena Erić, 13.37 Emma Norsgaard, 13.47 Barbara Guarischi
