Jarno Widar won the 2026 Tre Valli Varesine after coming through a late sequence of attacks to beat Tom Pidcock and Matteo Jorgenson. The Lotto Intermarché rider took the victory after a demanding finale around Varese in which the front group was repeatedly reshaped over the final 45km.
Pidcock had been one of the riders trying to force the race inside the final 15km, while Enric Mas and Clément Berthet also attacked later in the finale. Widar stayed in contention through those moves and was first across the line, with Pidcock second and Jorgenson completing the podium. Quinn Simmons and Marc Hirschi rounded out the top five.
How the 2026 Tre Valli Varesine unfolded
Noah Ramsay, Matteo Turconi and Fabian Weiss formed an early three-rider move after the opening kilometres. The race settled behind them for a long period, with Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team among the teams contributing to the chase as the route moved towards the repeated circuit around Varese.
The break began to fragment as the race wore on. Tommaso Nencini lost contact with the front group before later being caught by the peloton, while Weiss was also dropped and eventually reeled in. Decathlon CMA CGM Team contributed to the pace in the bunch as the gap to the remaining escapees continued to come down.
The character of the race changed inside the final 50km as attacks began to come from the main group. An EF Education-EasyPost rider attacked with around 45km remaining before Simmons accelerated two kilometres later. Ramsay, one of the original escapees, was dropped soon afterwards as the front of the race continued to reorganise.
Nicola Conci attacked for XDS Astana Team with just over 30km to go. A crash then affected Luke Plapp, Quentin Pacher, Henrique Bravo and Lorenzo Fortunato at around 29km remaining, adding another complication as the race entered its decisive phase.
Lenny Martinez attacked with around 25km to go, while Simmons was again active near the front. Brandon McNulty was among the riders working in the peloton as the race headed towards the final 20km and the repeated changes of pace continued to reduce the number of riders able to influence the finish.
Simmons attacked again with around 15km remaining but was caught shortly afterwards. Filippo Zana and Ramses Debruyne then tried moves of their own, before Pidcock attacked from the front group with around 14km left. That acceleration did not settle the race, and further attacks followed as the leaders approached Varese.
Mas accelerated with around six kilometres remaining, while Berthet made another move inside the final two kilometres. Widar remained in position through the succession of attacks and ultimately took the victory. Pidcock finished second, with Jorgenson third, while Simmons took fourth after his repeated late-race efforts.
