Welcome to live coverage of stage 2 of the 2025 Vuelta Femenina – the first road stage of this year’s race, taking the peloton 99km from Molins de Rei to Sant Boi de Llobregat. After yesterday’s team time trial in Barcelona, Ellen van Dijk carries the red jersey for Lidl-Trek, but with bonus seconds up for grabs today, she’ll need to be alert if she wants to keep it.
The route wastes no time in testing the legs, heading straight into the category 2 climb to the Alto de la Creu de L’Aragall. From there, the bunch will descend into the valley before tackling a fast and flat run-in towards the finish line in Sant Boi. It’s a day that could go to the sprinters, but the early climb and potential breakaway action may cause a few surprises.
Van Dijk holds the GC lead after a perfectly judged TTT ride, but Femke Gerritse, Georgia Baker, and Letizia Paternoster all sit just three seconds behind. Chloe Dygert is also within striking range at eight seconds down, and if any of them collect bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint or the finish, the red jersey could be up for grabs. Marianne Vos, however, starts as the favourite for the stage win – if the day ends in a bunch sprint, few would bet against her.
