The Simac Ladies Tour got underway today with a fast two and a half kilometre long prologue around the streets of Ede. With a combination of powerful straights and technical, twisting corners; it was set to be a tough test out for the peloton, with only a handful of seconds deciding the day.
Setting off well, each member of the team gave it their all on the punchy course, with Team DSM debutant Megan Jastrab producing a good early time of three minutes and 13 seconds. Leah Kirchmann and Pfeiffer Georgi would go on to better Jastrab’s time by a few seconds, before the team’s last rider down the ramp Lorena Wiebes would set the squad’s best effort of the day. Flying around the sharp turns and using her sprinting ability to power down the straights, Wiebes finished stopped the clock in three minutes and eight seconds; ending the day in a strong fifth place.
“I think it was a good prologue for us,” explained Wiebes after the stage. “Of course we hoped for a little bit more, but I was really close to the podium in the end. I think the legs are good and we’re looking forward to the next stages!”
Team DSM coach Albert Timmer added: “We all did what we could out there today and I think it was a fair result in the end. Of course there are always some small things that we can look to improve but overall all of the team did a nice time trial, with Lorena getting us a good result. We’re looking ahead to the next stages and our chances to come.”
