The women’s peloton enters the British WorldTour races. In Ride London, Christine Majerus, Elena Cecchini, Chantal van den Broek-Blaak, Marlen Reusser, Lonneke Uneken and Lotte Kopecky will be at the start. “It’s a first for me,” says Marlen Reusser. “I’ve never ridden RideLondon myself, but usually the stages end in a sprint, so we’re certainly not without a chance.”
The Swiss champion returns to competition after an altitude training session in the Berninapass. “I’m curious how the form will be after three weeks at altitude. I always have to wait and see. It was the perfect training camp. Everything went as planned. I was alone, which was sometimes difficult. But the altitude training was an ideal preparation for the upcoming season.”
One where Reusser has important goals. “Of course I hope to become world champion in the time trial, but it would also be nice if we could win the Tour de France with the team. The fact that some girls from the tour team ride together in Ride London is only good for the automatisms during the race. After my first spring with Team SD Worx, I’m really looking forward to what’s to come.”
So starting with RideLondon. “I want to train here and be able to win again with the team. I have great expectations for the summer. Last year I was really good in this period. I finished second twice, third once and fourth in the general classification. Who knows, maybe I can also take first place one day? That would be nice,” Reusser concludes.
