Mavi Garcia confirms herself as Spanish champion again in the road race

Just as she did just under a year ago, 24 hours after winning the national ITT yesterday, Mavi Garcia (Alé BTC Ljubljana), from the Balearic Islands, was today confirmed as the Spanish champion of the road race.

The race took place over a distance of 106.9 kilometres, starting and finishing in La Nucia, near Alicante. Garcia won by a margin of 12 seconds ahead of Ane Santesteban of Bikeexchange, with Sara Martin (Movistar Team) rounding out the podium at 3:21.

It is the fourth national title at individual level conquered by the team Alé BTC Ljubljana in the last four days, after the titles of Marlen Reusser in Switzerland, Eugenia Bujak in Slovenia and Mavi Garcia herself yesterday in Spain, all three in time trial.

Mavi Garcia said after her victory: “It was a very tough course with 2,300 metres of elevation gain. I had a good race from the start. The group split up almost immediately because already after 9 kilometres there was the first hard mountain climb of the day with an average gradient of 8%. The sensations were immediately very good for me, the climbs made selection and we remained in front of a group of five athletes. The wind made things even more difficult, then Ane Santesteban and I stayed in front and on the final climb I accelerated and went on to win. It was not easy, but I really wanted this victory and I am very happy”. Tomorrow there will be another full day of National Championships with several of our girls competing in their respective countries.
