No glory for Team Jumbo-Visma Women in Tour of Flanders

A week after its first victory, the Dutch team did not play a significant role in the final of ‘Vlaanderens Mooiste’. Marianne Vos was the first rider from the Dutch team to cross the line. She finished 12th.

Team Jumbo-Visma Women rode a strong race and managed to stay in front of the peloton for a long time. Riejanne Markus and Anna Henderson managed to keep Vos at the front even after the race was broken up. The three of them were in the first group until the Oude Kwaremont. There eight riders managed to create a gap and Vos had to acknowledge her superiority. It was then Annemiek van Vleuten who jumped away from the leading group and crossed the finish line first.

“The Kwaremont doesn’t lie. I would have liked to do better, but there simply wasn’t more in it.”

“There was hard racing today”, Vos said. “I felt good and had confidence in the race. On the Kwaremont I had to let go. At that point I couldn’t go with the group that escaped, they were just riding too hard for me. The Kwaremont doesn’t lie. We certainly tried to come back in the group that was formed then, but it was difficult. The collaboration didn’t quite work out. I would have liked to do better today, but there simply wasn’t more in it.”
