Norsgaard, 8th in a chaotic Nokere Koerse

Six 2021 races for the Movistar team, six top-ten results

The Danish rider, who crashed with Aude Biannic early on, took part in the sprint behind the triumphant Pieters (SDW)

The former European champion Amy Pieters (SD Worx) prevailed on Wednesday in a demanding Nokere Koerse (UCI ProSeries), marked by the intense wind, cold and rain in its 124 km with eight stretches of cobbles and six climbs to the Nokereberg, the uphill finish of the Flemish race.

Pieters overcame Brown (BEX, 2nd) and Klein (CSR, 3rd) from a breakaway formed in the final laps and that the peloton, about sixty strong, could not take down. Movistar Team arrived at that stage with four of their riders still in the race after a busy start, with a fall for Emma Norsgaard and Aude Biannic which left ankle discomfort and some abrasions – Biannic abandoned soon after – and a wound to the left knee of the Dane.

Emma, backed by Gonzalez, Guarischi and, in the final part, Jelena Ericshe was able, however, to continue in the race and fight to the end in a group where he finished 8th, fifth of the bunch sprint, to stay one more race among the best. Movistar Team will now travel to Italy to ride, next Sunday, the second race of the UCI Women’s WorldTour, the Binda Trophy.
