Stage one of the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana Feminas was one for the sprinters. With only one hill to go on the route between Gandia and Cullera the team had a plan ready to have Charlotte Kool contest the sprint. Unfortunately a crash derailed the plan.
We did really well as a team today. Julia and Britt piloted me to the front at 15 kilometres from the line when the wind came into play. Then someone moved all the way from the left to the right and I couldn’t avoid Britt anymore. I crashed hard but after a bike change and great teamwork I managed to get back in the peloton at 7 kilometres from the line. Rozemarijn brought me all the way back to the front
The final was very chaotic and the course was pretty dangerous causing many riders to crash left and right. Five kilometres out from the finish I was caught behind a crash again, came to a complete standstill and knew it was lost.
Despite all this bad luck I am really happy with how we rode as a team today, how we handled the chaos and how our form is. Hopefully the damage is not too bad and can we take th good things from this stage to the next sprint opportunity.
