Petra Stiasny wins Grand Prix Boquerón in uphill time trial opener

Petra Stiasny 2025 Grand Prix Borqueron

The Grand Prix Boquerón saw Petra Stiasny claim her first professional victory with a dominant ride in El Salvador, but despite being framed locally as the opening stage of the 2025 Tour El Salvador, this was in fact a separate standalone race. The UCI event officially begins on 2nd April with a short prologue in San Salvador.

Held over 9.1 kilometres from Parque El Principito to Las Brumas in El Boquerón, the race served as a tough early test for the international field. Stiasny, riding for Roland, stopped the clock at 32 minutes and 51 seconds on a course that climbed almost continuously from start to finish.

“The whole route was uphill, very demanding but very beautiful,” said Colombian rider Angie Londoño, one of the first to reach the finish line. The race attracted 120 riders from 30 different countries, including European champions, national titleholders and several WorldTour squads.

Dilyxine Miermont of Ceratizit Pro Cycling finished second with a time of 33:34, 43 seconds slower than Stiasny. Third place went to Morgane Coston, also of Roland, who came in just three seconds further back. Last year’s Vuelta a El Salvador overall winner, Elena Hartmann, narrowly missed the podium in fourth with 33:39.

Colombian national team rider Jessenia Meneses placed sixth, finishing over a minute behind Stiasny. The time gaps reflect just how selective the climb was, averaging around 6% for its full length.

Local teams Santa Ana and Maca were also in action. Santa Ana fielded Sauking Shi, Sonia Retana and Marina Miranda, while Maca lined up with Marcela Aguiluz and Elena Lazo.
