The corona crisis also has a huge impact on cycling. For example, the competition program of TALENT Cycling and Biehler Krush Pro Cycling has come to a halt. Nevertheless, this is no reason to stay indoors. In fact, it is good to keep moving! With some adjustments you can just train. In this blog, TALENT Cycling trainer Stefan van Klink explains how we train these days and what you can do.
Now that the cycling season is turned upside down, we need to be creative with how we handle training. Competitions are cancelled and group training can no longer be organized. However, there are still plenty of opportunities to continue training.
1. Follow the authorities
There is a lot of information on the Internet about what to do and what not to do in these times, but it is important to follow the guidelines of the bodies that deal with it. The KNWU has listed the consequences for cyclists. These can be found here.
2. Shift your goals
Without competitions and other events it is sometimes difficult to find the motivation to carry out your training properly. Many of our riders had planned a peak season in the preseason, which they now have to get off. Fortunately, the cycling season is long and many beautiful competitions and tours will follow at the end of the year.
3. Know what you are training for
You always train to get better. As a cyclist you want to get the most out of yourself. With or without a course, this is still possible! As long as we can train, we can get better. Find other ways to challenge yourself. Varied training during this period helps to keep training fun and to still make great strides.
4. Discover
If you are at home from school or work, this is the time for a long bike ride. Find places you’ve never been before. Quiet endurance training is only good during this period, so take your time to enjoy the area. A tool like Statshunters can certainly help with this.
5. Course on Zwift
The way to continue to race is via Zwift. In times of a possible lockdown, this is the way to continue to train and keep the sense of race in it. You can always keep doing indoor training.
6. Follow a training program
The Biehler Krush Pro Cycling and TALENT Cycling riders all follow an individual training program. This gives them the focus to continue to train well and to continue to improve during this period. The advantage of cycling is that you can always train, if necessary indoors. When you have to train individually, training programs help enormously with good output. Recreational users can also train in a targeted manner via the KNWU Fondo training app . Definitely try this out!
