The Durango Durango Emakumeen Saria was decided in a uphill sprint between World champion Anna van der Breggen and European champion Annemiek van Vleuten. They caught Cecile Uttrup Ludwig at the last climb of the race and went together to the finish line in Durango. As Van der Breggen and Van Vleuten were waiting for each other, Uttrup Ludwig managed to close the gap to the two Dutch leaders.

Anna van der Breggen started sprinting in the streets of Durango and crossed the finish line first. Van Vleuten became second before Uttrup. It’s the second win in a row for Van der Breggen in Spain, after she won the Gran Premio Ciudad de Eibar last Sunday.

Niamh Fisher-Black from Team SD Worx was also on the podium. She won the prize for best U23 rider.

“Demi Vollering, Niamh and me made a mistake by missing a big split in the bunch in the first part of the race. It’s really because of the hard work of Karol Ann Canuel and Elena Cecchni, and the Canyon-SRAM girls, that we still could fight for the victory. I’m happy that I could win the sprint and have another victory, said Van der Breggen directly after the finish. The next race on the calendar of Van der Breggen is the Vuelta a Burgos who starts within two days. “I’m really looking forward to Burgos, which will be the next WorldTour-race of this season. But first after all those rainy days I hope for some sunny days in Spain.”
