Race Report: Demi Vollering second in Brabantse Pijl

There were some exciting moments after the finish in Overijse. It seems that Demi Vollering crossed the finish line first, but after the decision of the jury after some re-study of the finish pictures, Ruth Winder of Trek-Segafredo was declared as the winner of the race. The difference was only 2 millimetres.

For a long time, the peloton stayed together until the final part of the race. With 22 kilometres to go, a group of 6 riders get an advantage of around 58 seconds of which soon was clear that they would fight for the victory.

With 350 meters to go, the sprint was started of which the result is known.

Vollering: “I’m very disappointed. I had the feeling that I won this sprint. Apparently not. I don’t know if it was the jump, but it is almost impossible to see at the pictures. The difference is almost the size of a megapixel. During the race I thought something is going to happen, so I have to stay ahead. Glad we could stay away. Every climb I set the pace high with the group and tried to set up a good cooperation with the other girls. I am glad it worked out. In general, it was a hard race, my team did a really good job to be in the front. I need to thank them!”.
