With an eighth place in the general classification of the Festival Elsy Jacobs, a three-day stage race in her home country Luxembourg, Christine Majerus has finished as the best rider of Team SD Worx. This three-day consists of a prologue and two hilly stages in Luxembourg.
On Friday during the 2.2-kilometre prologue in Cessange, Lonneke Uneken finished at a fifth place, 5 seconds behind winner Lorena Wiebes of Team DSM. Christine Majerus was the second rider on behalf of the team in the top ten at the eighth place.
In the first stage over 125 kilometres, Christine Majerus finished first on behalf of Team SD Worx with a sixth place. Sports director Bram Sevens says: “During this stage we missed some pawns to help Christine. As a result, she had to do extra work herself, which meant that she missed some extra’s in the sprint. ”
Today was the final stage of the Festival Elsy Jacobs. A hilly stage of 105 kilometres in Garnich, the birthplace of Elsy Jacobs. Sevens: “Our goal during this stage was to keep the peloton together before we entered the local laps. From there we wanted to make the race hard in order to make the group smaller and afterward try to attack. This was successful, but partly because cars were admitted between the leading group and the peloton, the following group was able to return. And so we had to start again with our plan.” Bram Sevens explains. “We rode very strong as a team today. Compliments for the good work from both Niamh Fisher-Black and Anna Shackley. As a team we showed what we are worth in the final stage, something that may not have been entirely successful on Saturday ”.
