Rider diaries with Floortje Mackaij

With racing already well underway, Floortje Mackaij sat down before her flight to Trofeo Alfredo Binda, to write about about her start of the season and how she is looking forward to the classics…

My winter was very good and we had nice camps with the team. I started my season with Valenciana, the first day was hard but during the second stage I found my legs and from there on it has gone well and I am in good shape. At Opening Weekend, we rode well together as a team with Lorena finishing third in Omloop and myself also on the podium the day after which was super nice.

I could feel that my shape was picking up.

At Drentse Acht, I was also able to get another podium and we won the Ronde van Drenthe with Lorena after brilliant teamwork. It’s nice to feel that I am getting into the rhythm of things again! I will race Trofeo Binda in Italy, I always like racing in Italy, after that the focus goes to the Flemish classics with de Ronde as a first goal.

The week after de Ronde we already go to the Ardennes; I have a good feeling going towards these races and it gives me a lot of confidence. We have got a nice group of girls who work together very well!

Everyone knows each other’s strengths and we make good use of them.

The young girls are racing with such a mature style, everybody knows their job in the races and that shows in good results. We look forward to Gent-Wevelgem, Dwars door Vlaanderen and de Ronde with confidence.  The Ardennes classics are something I am also excited about, and we have a strong team for them. When things go well we will have several cards to play in these races. When everybody is committed to the plan and going all in for that common goal, it’s super nice!

I hope all of you are equally excited about the upcoming classics as I am and I hope to see you at the side of the road cheering for the team!

Until next time, Floortje x
