Sheyla Gutierrez has decided to stay with the Movistar cycling team for three more seasons. She’s become a vital part of the team because of her teamwork, results, and dedication. The Movistar Team sees a lot of potential in Sheyla Gutierrez and has signed a contract with her for the seasons from 2024 to 2026. This means she will have been with the team led by Sebastián Unzué for at least eight seasons.
In 2023, she played a key role in successes at the Giro Donne and the Tour de France Femmes. Known as ‘Leona,’ she’s overcome many health problems that held her back in the past. In 2022, she won two stages of the Tour de l’Ardèche and placed well in other races. She’s become more than just an individual star; her attitude and commitment have helped make Movistar one of the top cycling teams in the world. Her words show her gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to keep working with the team. She’s focused on staying in good shape and contributing even more in the future. She feels honoured to work with great leaders like Annemiek van Vleuten and sees her continued relationship with Movistar as a “true gift.”
“I have finished growing in this team. They have taken care of me, they have supported me and they have trusted me even more than I have done myself. They offered me three more years and I didn’t want to think about going anywhere else. When bad things have happened, they haven’t stopped being there. It is the place where I have to be. Here I will continue to do my best to take the Movistar brand to the place it deserves. Since the end of 2022, I was focused on having a very good winter, and managing to complete a stable season.
Since December last year, the physical condition has been very, very good. I think I still have much more to give. If I continue without losing that warrior spirit, I think I can bring even more joy to the team. These years, when I have been able to be in good health, I have been able to carry out a very important task as a gregarious person. For me, it is a privilege to be alongside the great leaders, and it has been even more so to run alongside Annemiek van Vleuten.
