Sofie De Vuyst is a retired Belgian professional cyclist who specialised in hilly one-day races and the Classics. She enjoyed the strongest season of her career in 2019, winning Brabantse Pijl and earning the Flandrienne of the Year award after a series of strong international performances.

Career overview

De Vuyst spent more than a decade racing internationally and was runner-up in the 2011 Belgian road race championship and 2012 national time-trial championship. She won a stage of the 2018 Tour de Feminin before producing her best season in 2019, when she won Brabantse Pijl, finished second at La Classique Morbihan and seventh at Classic Lorient Agglomération. She also placed 14th in the World Championship road race and was named Belgium’s Flandrienne of the Year. De Vuyst had agreed to join Mitchelton-Scott for 2020, but an out-of-competition anti-doping test from September 2019 returned positive for exogenous anabolic steroids, with the B-sample subsequently confirming the result. She did not return to professional racing and later confirmed that her cycling career was over.
