The Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées comes into 2024 with a new name after a disastrous 2023 edition, whilst known as the CIC-Tour Féminin Pyrénées. That race became infamous for ignoring rider safety as the opening stage saw live traffic on the race route as it circled around the finishing town. The next day saw more live traffic on supposed closed roads and the inevitable rider strike as a result. The riders simply stopped in the road as a new plan was devised. With a stage finish on a dead-end road up Hautacam, the race was neutralised all the way to the base of the climb as rider safety couldn't be guaranteed.

It is the first time that the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Femenina will be a stage race. It began life in 2018 and subsequently post-covid in 2021, 2022 and 2023 as the reVolta one-day race. Plenty of climbing but an often small startlist, the hope is that a stage race will encourage more teams and stronger riders to the northeast corner of Spain. A very long-running race, the Bretagne Ladies Tour can trace its origins back to 1987 when Cecile Odin won. Since then, it’s always kept a low level but has just started to move up in the last couple of years after a patchy record since 2016. It only held one edition between 2017 and 2021, partly down to Covid but also just general troubles. It’s no longer a 2.2 race either but has reached 2.1 level in 2022.
